Thank you for your post on the pickle ornament. It was very informative and I will be sharing it with family members, as we all have these. It also jogged my memory of a funny Christmas many years ago.

Thanks! I'm hoping that everyone gets genealogy presents under the tree. I'd also just be happy to some more red pencils for underlining! Or maybe some really nice file folders....

Thanks so much!! I might take you up on that. I'm hoping that I'll be down that way at Christmas since we still have a lot of family down there, but you never know what's going to happen these days.

I've got a few Ar relatives without death certs too. Maddening is a good word for it. If you need any help with the local courthouse or newspaper for obits, I research my ancestors in this county all the time. I live in the area.

Yes... I've got that software as well. However, I never really could get used to it. I periodically will go back to it and try to reorganize my thinking so that I will be able to get more accustomed to it but I never can stick with it. I also don't like the way they do their sources. I also have the iPhone app and found that my files were so large it would often cause the app to crash.

Have you heard of MacFamilyTree from Synium Software? I've been using that for a few years and love it. They've even got an iPhone/iPod Touch app and trial version: http://www.synium.de/products/macfamilytree/index.html

And no, I don't work for em!

I've mentioned it elsewhere, but will say it again - it may be hard for those of us who are "into" genealogy to realize, but there are kajillions of people out there who are interested in their own family's history but have absolutely no interest in genealogy or in becoming a genealogist! Really, it's true.
But there is hope for these people - their family's stories can still be told. Enter the professional genealogist, or one who conducts research for a living. What a huge opportunity and a win-win for all.
