[Carnival of Genealogy] 2010 Genealogical Resolutions

MyNeChimKi’s Genealogical Services’ post for 2010 Genealogical Resolutions is part of the 87th Edition of the Carnival of Genealogy hosted by Jasia at Creative Gene.

I’ve done a really good job of doing my genealogy in a rather haphazard manner. It seems that most of my information just happens to come from whatever rock (or tombstone?) I stumble over next. So my general “summary” resolution for my genealogical endeavors is to be more focused in the coming year.

And that starts today… or maybe Saturday… But anyway, here’s some of the things I’d like to accomplish before the year’s out.

Personal Family History

1. Travel to Isle of Wight County, Virginia and glean more information on my COPELAND ancestors.
2. Complete my Eleanor CRAIG and John CRAIG DAR supplementals.
3. McAfee, McAfee, McAfee… Continue to trace down the antics of very bad ole Oliver Cromwell McAfee (wherever that might take me).
4. Clean up the sources in my Reunion 9 database and get that thing back up on the internet — proven lines ONLY!

Professional/Educational Endeavors

As sort of a high-level, long-term goal I’d like to really make a push for certification within 5 years… preferably sooner. I still feel like I have a long way to go, but I’m hoping that some of this will help me along my way.

1. Renew my subscription to the BCG’s On Board publication.
2. Join and participate in the NGSQ monthly chats. (Note: This is sort of cheating as a resolution because I already signed up for the Thursday, 9pm chat session… starting this month!)
3. Put my heart and soul into my ProGen Study Group.
4. Attend at least one major, national genealogical conference or seminar.
5. Start the NGS Home Study Course (I’ve already got CD #1, but I can’t seem to get going on it… always something else to do).
6. Attend more montly meetings of the Fairfax Genealogical Society and both of their major conferences (spring & fall).

I should include “creating a roadmap for MyNeChimKi’s Genealogical Services” as one of my resolutions, but I don’t think I’m quite to that point yet. I’m hoping to continue sharing the blogging duties with my mother — we really had a blast with the Advent Calendar of Christmas Memories posts this year. So, it’s possible that we’ll have a bit more structure and organization to the posts. I have thoroughly enjoyed my weekly Tombstone Tuesday posts and I hope to continue them. I have a little cache of shots that I took back in November and I hope that they will last me until the winter weather takes its leave. But if not, there may be some snow covered shots! There’s a beautiful little cemetery in Leesburg not far from where I work that I’m just dying to go photograph.

2010 should be an exciting year! I look forward to sharing more adventures in genealogy with you and hearing about what my fellow bloggers are up to! Cheers and Happy New Year!!
